The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most remote and adventurous trekking journeys in Nepal. Located in the far eastern Himalayas, this trek takes you to the base of Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third-highest mountain in the world. The trail passes through dense forests, deep valleys, and traditional mountain villages, offering trekkers a true wilderness experience far from crowded trekking routes.
Along the way, trekkers explore both the North Base Camp (Pangpema) and the South Base Camp (Oktang), each offering incredible views of glaciers, towering peaks, and wide alpine landscapes. The region is rich in biodiversity and lies within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, home to rare wildlife such as red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and snow leopards. Trekkers also experience the culture of Rai, Limbu, and Tibetan-influenced communities living in the high mountains.
The trek usually takes 20–24 days and reaches its highest point at Pangpema, about 5,143 meters (16,873 ft). This challenging but rewarding journey is perfect for trekkers who want a raw Himalayan adventure with dramatic scenery and deep cultural experiences. The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is truly one of Nepal’s most unforgettable and untouched trekking adventures.
